Sheridan, AR – Sheridan Family Pharmacy, an independently owned pharmacy in Sheridan, AR in Grant County, announced September 26, 2024 that they have been awarded over $2313.00 worth of naloxone from the Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership. Naloxone, or (NARCAN®), is a low-risk medication used to reverse opioid overdoses.

Over the next year, Sheridan Family Pharmacy will distribute free kits of naloxone across Grant County. They will provide naloxone to high-risk patients, families, and those that may encounter high-risk individuals . Each recipient will receive training on safe administration and tools to report naloxone saves.

“As a pharmacist, I see firsthand the impact of the opioid crisis. In Arkansas, where opioid prescribing rates are the second highest in the nation, providing naloxone to patients and their families is not just an obligation- it’s an essential step in safeguarding lives. Each kit represents our commitment to protecting our community, empowering families, and ensuring that help is always within reach.” said Megan Wilson, pharmacist at Sheridan Family Pharmacy.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 107,622 Americans died of drug overdoses in 2021. Any community members who want to carry naloxone to save someone from an overdose can receive free doses through this program.

Randy Pruitt, Grant County Judge, and Cain Nattin, Mayor of Sheridan, have expressed their strong support for this initiative, emphasizing its importance in combating the opioid crisis within our communities.
