Carter’s Crew Brings $200,584.10 Opioid Settlement Dollars to Little Rock, AR.

Little Rock, AR (July 9, 2024) – Carter’s Crew, a nonprofit agency in Pulaski County, announced July 9, 2024, that they have been awarded $200,584.10 opioid settlement dollars from the Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership (ARORP). Carter’s Crew will use this funding to support opioid prevention education in Pulaski County.

“This funding is crucial in our ongoing efforts to mitigate the devasting impact of opioid addiction,” said Amber Govan, Executive Director of Carter’s Crew. “It will allow us to implement new programming, reach more individuals in need, and implement innovative solutions to prevent future addiction. The settlement dollars will also support our efforts to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and promote healthier, safer communities.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), most adults who have a substance use disorder begin using during their teen or young adult years.  In 2021, there were 386 opioid overdose deaths in Arkansas, which accounted for 61% of all drug overdose deaths in the state.

Over the next year, Carter’s Crew will hire three staff to mitigate risk factors for opioid misuse among students ages 12-17. The program will run four 12-week sessions annually, followed by nine months of follow-up for each participant. Carter’s Crew will also develop an opioid prevention curriculum available online. Each participant will complete the program and receive case management services, life skills, supportive services, career readiness, and access to food and clothing pantries.

This project comes with support from Judge Barry Hyde and Little Rock Mayor, Frank Scott Jr. We couldn’t have received these settlement dollars without their letters of support.  We appreciate the support from our County Judge and Mayor.
